ServeNow pastors hand out copies of the Story of Jesus to eager children

At that time Jesus said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this was your good pleasure.” Matthew 11:25-26

In the past two weeks, more than 400 children have received a copy of the ‘Story of Jesus’ in North Bengal, India. The ServeNow pastor handing out the books is enthusiastically tells us,

“It’s encouraging to observe that the ‘Story of Jesus’ is becoming the very first children literature to thousands of children in India. And sometime it’s their parents who also receive the Gospel for the first time through this comic book.
As we develop a plan to distribute thousands of  the ‘Story of Jesus’ to the children in coming months, lets pray that these children and their parents receive the Gospel and become followers of Christ.”

 Please Pray:

  • That the children, their families, and even their neighbors are so touched by what they read that they connect with a local church, “receive the Gospel and become followers of Christ.”
  • Jeremiah 17:8 over these children, “They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit.”
  • For the successful distribution of the ‘Story of Jesus’ in a variety of languages in India, Nepal, Ukraine and Uganda. Please pray for the funding of this process to increase, so that we may spread the Word through children. We expect to give out over 1.2 million copies in 2015.

Leave your prayers as a comment below for the children who have received their copy of the ‘Story of Jesus’. The pastors will then share your words of encouragement with the children.

Yielding a Good Crop

Untitled

This is the one who produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown. Matthew 13:23b (NIV)

Pastor Udit Parichha and his wife Sunita started a church-planting ministry in a remote area in south Odisha. They currently hold church and prayer services in three villages, which started because of the faith of two courageous individuals. Over the next few weeks, you’ll read the stories of people who changed the lives dozens of people, simply by believing in Jesus and being witness to his grace.

Last week, we brought you the story of Kanthi, who was saved out of witchcraft and brought physical healing. The woman who asked Pastor Udit to visit Kanthi was Satya. Today we will share her story.

Satya was is distress because she had a land dispute with her family and was in danger of losing the independence she had fought so hard to obtain. When Pasor Udit and his wife Sunita were visiting her village, Satya asked them to pray for her to be delivered from her family quarrels and her other troubles.

Udit and his wife gave her a Bible and prayed continually for Satya for about two weeks. When they returned to Satya’s village, they learned that the Lord had indeed intervened and Satya got her land back and her family quarrels had ceased.

Satya told the Parichhas, “It is certainly the God of this Bible who has delivered me from this great trouble.” She and her mother-in-law then accepted Jesus as their Lord and read their Bible with much respect.

Not long afterward, they asked Pastor Udit to tell the rest of their family about Jesus, and upon doing so, their whole family came to know the Lord. Theirs was the first family in the village to accept Jesus as their Savior and, with Pasor Udit’s help, many families have now heard the Good News.

Please Pray:

  • For the continuous building up of Satya’s faith as she shares her story with those who have not yet heard the Gospel.
  • In thanksgiving that Satya’s entire family came to know Jesus and now has no quarrel amongst them.
  • For more Bibles to be distributed in Satya’s village, and for additional resources to help them better understand the God’s faith, hope, and love for them.

Please leave your prayers for Satya and Pastor Udit and Sunita as a comment below. Your expression of love will be relayed to each of them.

Good Soil in Odisha

Kanthi's church in Odisha

The seed falling on good soil refers to
someone who hears the word and understands it.
Matthew 13:23a (NIV)

Pastor Udit Parichha and his wife Sunita started a church-planting ministry in a remote area in south Odisha. They currently hold church and prayer services in three villages, which started because of the faith of two courageous individuals. Over the next few weeks, you’ll read the stories of people who changed the lives dozens of people, simply by believing in Jesus and being witness to his grace.

Kanthi was bed-ridden, and suffered terribly. No medical treatment helped him, and the practices of witchcraft in his village were making him worse. Pastor Udit travelled to Kanthi’s village and visited his house, praying over Kanthi for healing and deliverance.

Pastor Udit went home, where he fasted and prayed for three days, and then returned to see Kanthi. To his joy, Kanthi was now able to sit up on his bed. Pastor Udit shared the gospel, and immediately Kanthi accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior. This time as Pastor Udit prayed over him, Kanthi was healed—gaining strength immediately and walking a few days later.

Through these incidents, Kanthi’s entire family believed in Jesus and they were given a Bible and encouraged to read it and pray to Jesus every day. News of Kanthi’s healing spread and in two years seven families (about 35 people) have given their hearts to Jesus, worshiping together, praying with each other, and forming a house church fellowship.

Please Pray:

  • In thanksgiving for God’s mercy upon Kanthi and for fully healing him.
  • For the strength of the church in this remote village, that they are a beacon of hope for other families in the area.
  • That more families will come to know the Lord Jesus in Kanthi’s community.

Please leave your prayers as a comment below for Pastor Udit and Sunita as well as for Kanthi, his family, his church, and his village. Your words and prayers will be relayed to them, recharging and revitalizing the importance of church planting in their area.

He Lifts You Up

Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:6-7 (NIV)

Literacy to hope

In developing countries, literacy is a great first step to help women gain self-worth and self-sufficiency, and for children to stay out of human trafficking. The ServeNow Delhi Lighthouse Center takes literacy programs, using God’s word as the resource material, to surrounding slums in order to equip people, build trust, and lay a foundation of the Gospel.

Meena (pictured above) attended a previous literacy program and has asked ServeNow staff to conduct more programs in the area. When we visited her last week, we learned that she had been experiencing deep levels of depression, and had even attempted suicide recently.

Our team prayed with Meena, and shared the hope that is available in Jesus Christ. Her role in coordinating literacy programs for her community has given her renewed optimism and purpose.

Please Pray:

  • For Meena to sense that God sees her pain, and that she accepts the gift of his love, grace, and mercy.
  • That Meena’s efforts to coordinate multiple literacy programs bear good fruit for both the community and God’s kingdom.
  • 1 Peter 5:6-7 over Meena, and those who attend the programs. Ask for them to be “lifted up” and find renewed purpose in their lives as a result of their experience.
  • For favor over the Delhi Lighthouse Center staff as they reach out to the people in surrounding slums. May God bless them and give them the strength, compassion, and perseverance needed to carry out the work God is calling them to do.

Please leave your prayers for Meena and those in the slums surrounding the Delhi Lighthouse Center as a comment below. Your prayers will be relayed them.
